The British DanceSport Association (BDSA) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all participants within the dance sport community. This statement comes in response to the recent conviction of Antonio Franchitti, a former director of the British Dance Council. The BDSA acknowledges the profound impact such events can have on our community. We extend our deepest condolences to Ms Wood and her family during this difficult time.
Safeguarding remains a cornerstone of the BDSA's mission. We have implemented comprehensive policies to ensure a secure environment for all members, participants, and stakeholders. These measures include stringent background checks, mandatory safeguarding training, and clear reporting procedures for any concerns.
In collaboration with various organisations the BDSA has strengthened the safeguarding framework in dance sport, promoting inclusivity and safety across all dance sport events. The BDSA’s Safer DanceSport campaign launched at the beginning of 2024 and being the only dance governing body to mandate DBS check for all adjudicators underscores our dedication to upholding the highest standards of conduct and protection within our industry.
The BDSA encourages all members to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding efforts. By working together, we can maintain a culture of respect, trust, and safety, ensuring that dance sport is a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved.
